A Day in My Fitness Life (Because Workouts Are Better with Company)

By Denali

Barcelona is much more than a city of sangria and sunshine.

Barcelona is also a playground for fitness lovers who prefer their workouts with a side of fun and friendship!

Since moving here, I’ve traded in lonely treadmill slogs for sunrise runs, strength training with beast-mode buddies, and yoga sessions that somehow always end in laughter.

Here’s what a day in my fitness life looks like (featuring my favorite partners in crime).

Morning: Dragged Out of Bed by Luca for a Sunrise Run

Luca is that friend who makes you regret all your life choices at 6:30 AM.

He doesn’t text to ask if I want to run—he texts to tell me we’re running.

And so, bleary-eyed, I meet him at Barceloneta Beach, where the city is still waking up, and the sea breeze is (almost) enough to make me forget I’d rather be sleeping.

Luca is a triathlete, which means keeping up with him is an extreme sport in itself.

But the post-run ocean dip?

Totally worth the torture.

Midday: Strength Training (aka Surviving) with Sofia at Bogatell Gym

If there’s one person who can make me regret skipping leg day, it’s Sofia.

We meet at Bogatell Outdoor Gym, where she’s already setting up for deadlifts with an unsettling amount of enthusiasm.

“No slacking today!” she grins, handing me a kettlebell that feels suspiciously heavier than last time.

Between squats, push-ups, and Sofia’s motivational (read: slightly terrifying) pep talks, I somehow survive.

The salty sea breeze helps disguise my tears.

Afternoon: Eating Like I Earned It

After training, we reward ourselves with a feast at Flax & Kale.

I order my go-to: a quinoa bowl with grilled salmon, avocado, and a fresh green juice.

While we eat, we strategize for our next fitness adventure (and debate whether chocolate counts as post-workout fuel—Sofia says no, I say she needs to relax).

Evening: Sunset Yoga with Isabel at Montjuïc

Just when I think the day is winding down, Isabel convinces me that sunset yoga at Montjuïc is non-negotiable.

We find a quiet spot overlooking the city, stretch out our tired muscles, and breathe in the golden glow of Barcelona at dusk.

Isabel guides us through a session that’s equal parts relaxing and challenging, and by the time we finish, my mind is as light as my legs are heavy.

Fitness in Barcelona is so much more than sweating alone at the gym—it’s about community, adventure, and occasionally getting peer-pressured into early-morning workouts.

Whether it’s sprinting, lifting, laughing, or attempting not to fall over in yoga, I’ve learned that movement is better when shared.

If you’re ever in Barcelona and want to join the madness, let’s train together! Just don’t let Luca plan the wake-up time.
